Our 10 Favorite Dallas Engagement Session Locations
Dallas is home for us. And so we've listed our ten favorite locations for a Dallas engagement session right here in the city. This list has a range of location styles, from iconic views to beautiful gardens.
Whenever we make recommendations to the couples we work with for engagement session locations, we start by asking you "what is the vision you have for your engagement session?" The location you choose should align with the overall vision you have for your engagement photos.
So while looking over this list of locations, we encourage you to keep in mind the vision you have for your own engagement session. We hope this list is helpful and that you're able to find some inspiration as you make plans for your session. Also, most of these locations are free with an exception where noted.
1. Arlington Hall & Turtle Creek Park
Arlington Hall is a historic mansion wedding venue that sits at the top of the beautiful Turtle Creek Park. Even if you're not getting married here you can still, use the park and outdoor spaces for your engagement session. Remember to be cautious of the time and day you choose for your session. On popular wedding dates, the outdoor space will be booked for weddings, which will limit your access.
2. Arts District
The Dallas Arts District spans the length of Flora Street in downtown Dallas from the Dallas Museum of Art to Booker T. Washington High School for the Arts. Along Flora Street, you'll also find the Nasher Sculpture Center, a beautiful ivy wall, the Meyerson Symphony Hall, and a water fountain you can walk on in front of the Winspear Opera House. There are so many unique nooks to capture an engagement session in that we rarely make it down the entire few blocks of Flora Street.
3. Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Garden
Always a classic. Not only can you get married at the Dallas Arboretum & Botanical Garden, but you can also have your engagement session there. If a colorful, seasonal, floral garden is your style, this is definitely the ideal location or wedding venue. For engagement sessions, while there isn't a photography fee, you will also need to cover your photographer's arboretum ticket entrance and parking fees.
4. Deep Ellum
We love the grit and color in Deep Ellum. Just to the east of downtown Dallas, this urban neighborhood is a hot spot for bar hopping and eating out. It's also a great spot for engagement photos! It's important to remember that as new businesses keep popping up in the area, the colorful murals are constantly changing. If you love this location, we recommend that you drive through to check out the current murals and plan a sunrise session to avoid the crowds of people and parked cars blocking the murals.
5. Downtown Dallas
Downtown Dallas gives us all kinds of vibes, from the western-style of West End to big city energy on Main Street. And don't forget the city parks in between. If capturing a more industrial location is part of your engagement session vision, downtown Dallas could be the spot for you.
6. Klyde Warren Park
The arches at Klyde Warren Park are lovely to photograph. But the crowds are not. On a beautiful day with great weather, this park that divides downtown and uptown can get busy with folks enjoying the outdoors. So whenever we photograph an engagement session at Klyde Warren Park, we recommend going to first thing in the morning. Klyde Warren Park is also a quick walk over to the Dallas Museum of Art and the Arts District.
7. Lakeside Park
Located in the Highland Park neighborhood. Year-round we love capturing engagement sessions at Lakeside Park because you will find a beautiful well-maintained park lawn and lake. And even some colorful flowers depending on the season. On the other side of this bridge, there is a giant teddy bear made of concrete. We know, random, but it's so cute, you just gotta see it.
8. Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge
The Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge is one of the newer Dallas staples. This bridge connects downtown Dallas to West Dallas over the Trinity River. At this location, while on the pedestrian walkway, you'll be able to capture the iconic Dallas skyline as the backdrop to your engagement photos.
9. Trinity Groves
Literally, right across the street from the Margaret Hunt Hill Bridge. Trinity Groves is a pavilion of restaurants and shops with outdoor cafeteria-style seating. We love the colors and neon lighting of this location. After your engagement session at Trinity Groves, be sure to pop into Cake Bar to take home a slice or two of their delicious cake! (Bonus: Cake Bar is black-owned!)
10. White Rock Lake
White Rock Lake not only has a beautiful lake with piers to photograph on but if you take a walk, you will also find these gorgeous trails and fields with Texas wildflowers. We love that we don't have to travel far to get a rustic location for a portrait session. It's right here in the middle of the city of Dallas.
Bonus: with the Dallas Skyline
We love photographing here for this up close and personal view of the Dallas skyline. If you're looking for Dallas engagement session locations that truly show how much this city is apart of your story and journey together, you can come here to literally surround yourself with this epic Dallas scenery in your engagement photos.
